Our little Lucia is 10 weeks young now. And here is what I know to be true about our little Lulu Belle:
- She is as sweet as she is sassy
- She loves to be on the go
- She despises the carseat
- She wakes from sleep by the sound of daddy's voice
- She smiles the most in the mornings
- She follows us, even Bella, with her eyes.
- She is learning slowly how to sleep during the day, and not in our arms
- She seriously loves sports, soccer and basketball to be precise. I think she is a Trailblazers and Timbers fan. Just saying ; )
- She loves people, to look at them and smile. Any age, from babies to the elderly.
- Her front pack is her favorite place to hang out. Facing out please.
- She rolls over from front to back, I think just because she in no way likes "tummy time". So she resolves that little mommy and daddy imposed dilemma herself. Smart girl.
- She is a big time farter!
- People comment at how alert and strong she is, and how petite and long she is too.
- She shows her anger the most when she is tired, never when she is hungry.
- The girl loves to be swaddled.
- And tonight she is sleeping in her own crib in her own room....
Our newborn is becoming a baby!
And here is what I know to be true about being a new mom:
- She reminds me of what matters.
- This is so much more rewarding than I thought. And so much harder.
- The lack of sleep is finally catching up to me. I think I was on pure adrenaline for the first two months.
- I never knew how wonderful breastfeeding could be, and surprisingly, I love it. Really love it.
- My life now consists of 2-3 hour increments (feeding, diaper, play, cry (her or I both!), repeat).
- When she smiles, I can accomplish anything
- I don't dress her up as much as I thought I would. I want her to be comfy first and foremost.
- When I look at her, I wonder how anyone can hurt a child. Ever.
- I know who my true friends are, single or not. And to my surprise, I have lost a few.
- I still worry about being a good mom and making all the right choices.
- I am obsessed with taking enough of photos and videos of her. At least a handful a day. I am trying to hold onto this very moment, in which I know can never be.
- Some days I have high expectations of her, and have to remind myself that she is still so little and will cry often. As a first time mom, I have no idea whats normal.
- I am still committed to living a balanced life.
- I wonder if my body will ever feel the same again.
- I wonder if my body will ever look the same again.
- I daydream about our future together as a family, especially trips to Disneyland!
- I am proud of the daddy I chose for her
- I am shocked to think that she may not have ever been, and am thankful of the choice Rafa and I made.
- And while she is in her own bed tonight, I secretly wish she were sleeping right here next to me so I could hold her tiny growing hand...
- Oh and I would post a new pic, but I lost my camera cable. Another joy of being a new mom...cant keep anything in the same place! So ill just post her newborn one...what a beauty.

Lucia Tree!
Ok, so Lucia, mommy and daddy are pretty slow these days to accomplish anything. But one thing we wanted to do before your 1st birthday (at the very least) was to plant a tree in your honor. We decided to go with a Cherry Blossom tree, since your room is decorated with one and because every year in April (the month you were born) the tree will bloom beautiful pink flowers. We went and picked up the tree this weekend and daddy planted so that you could see it from your bedroom every year! We still want to make you a sign for it and perhaps set a little bench next to it. But give us some time...we have very little of it these days!
Weekend Breakfasts with Liza
One of the things I look forward to the most about my weekends is taking the time to meet up with Liza for breakfast. We don't hit every weekend, but we are pretty darn close. Usually we dine at one of the hot spots in NW, my fav is Stepping Stone Cafe. It's the perfect time to catch up with each other and I love that I remain connected to my friends (post Lucia), even if its just in some small way like breakfast. It's amazing what conversations we can bust out in a hour...its like turbo chat! Thanks Liza for being my weekend breakfast buddy and so much more!

Our 6 Year Anniversary
On June 7th, it was our 6 year anniversary. It was a Tuesday, Rafa had a long day at work, Lucia and I had a busy day at our class and we were all recovering from our California trip. But, that didn't stop us from getting dressed up and hitting the town for dinner. While it is always a risk taking Lucia out at this age (sleeping, eating and happiness can all be secondary to crying!) we thought we'd give it a whirl to see how we do. Sure enough, the little rascal woke up as soon we arrive and started crying. So, it took some moments away from the table to calm her and I had the one handed dinner which required some assistance from Rafa. But that didn't matter. One day, I will look back and be thankful for two things...1. That we didn't have a babysitter. 2. That I was able to hold her in my arms just one more time.
Rafa and I had the best anniversary yet, the proof of our love and our family exists in sweet Lucia.

8 Weeks...Doctor Visit
Oh no! It was the dreaded 8 week appointment where you received the first of many shots. Ugh. Mommy was so scared for you. But, you were a champ and only gave a little cry out and then we hugged and everything was all better. At your appointment you were 23 inches long and weighed 10lb 10oz. We took some time to admire the beauty that is you....

Noela - American Citizen!
Our dear friend Noela, who is from Uganda, became a US Citizen today. The ceremony was special; an oath, the Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, and of course, Lee Greenwoods, "I'm Proud to be an American". As an American, it was really great to see these 31 people from 16 different countries want to become an American Citizen. After the ceremony we celebrated at my work with an American Lunch; hotdogs, lemonade, potatoe salad, and apple pie. Lucia did great during the ceremony, but became really tired during the lunch and super fussy, but she looked so cute in her red white and blue, my little American Princess! Congrats Noela!

Well since now we have a little one, who is just 8 weeks old, we thought we would stay close, celebrate our marriage, our little family, and our bigger family. It was a great trip to Fresno!
